Dancing on the Moon — TTT 04 July

Fleischer Studios produced some of my favorite animation. I recorded a special years ago during which it was demonstrated how they made the characteristic “deep” backgrounds by using multiple cels separated by physical space, i.e. the furthest back background was physically several inches behind the closer-looking ones. For some reason doing it this way never occurred to me.

Most people know of their Betty Boop and Popeye work; some people have seen Hoppity Goes to Town several times in the theatre *cough* but here’s a little short featuring animals that I had never seen.

(Wonder where my Betty Boop tape is? Guess I hardly need it any more now that YouTube Exists. Here’s one of the shorts that is on it: Happy You and Merry Me:)
