Peeled Spud — TTT 20 Mar

Anyone care to guess what sort of creature this is?

Well, now we all know what a naked hedgehog looks like, eh? This little guy, named “Spud”, is currently a resident at a wildlife rescue hospital in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, England. According to the hospital’s website he “was found in Ruislip last August. He was already bald, but was also covered in all sorts of lesions and flaky skin.

Over the months our vets have tried everything, including biopsies and other skin tests. Different skins treatments have proved useless.”

Good news for him is that during his convalescence he is enjoying the spa life with frequent baths and rubdowns with baby oil.

There’s more information and pictures of this unfortunate little nudist here, as well as stories of other animals under the News tab (Nene, look at Biffo’s tale.) What a nice organization and how very British it seems!

Oh, poor little guy. There is a reason hedgehogs have fur and prickles. There is a reason cats and dogs have fur. Otherwise they would look as silly as we furless ones do. I bet he’s really warm to hold.

ooo, creepy. Do you think his quills will grow out (like fingernails do)?
