Peeling out — TTT 10 July
Friday, July 10th, 2009Sometimes I wonder, if I were stuck on a desert island with nothing to eat but bananas hanging off the palms, how hungry would I have to get before I’d begin to eat them. I think the ironic truth is that I’d be so hungry and weak that I could no longer climb the tree to get them down before I’d consider consumption. Starving in the midst of plenty, meat for the sand crabs, skeleton found years later, that sort of thing. A sad situation when if I had only started to chow down immediately I would have survived until old age. Shed a tear for the hapless lost chiquita.
This is a long way around to say that I really dislike bananas. I don’t like the way they taste and I don’t like the way they smell and it doesn’t matter if they are green, yellow or turning brown. Of all the fruit I have ever tasted they are my least favorite.
I do, however, live with banana eaters, which is fine as long as they don’t make me sit right there while eating them or get their banana breath in my face. As a favor to these individuals, here is a very interesting short film that shows what looks like an extremely logical and efficient way to peel the fruit.
