– Challenge 2011
Last year’s goal was to read more non-fiction and my self-assessment of how I did would be a B-. I read books from 34% of the categories Library of Congress numbering system; fewer than I could have mostly due to getting on a huge jag of reading about the destruction of the World Trade Center in the 2001 terrorist attacks. Overall of the 120 books I finished last year 78 were non-fiction. 65% isn’t bad.
Frankly, I’m kind of burnt out on this at the moment as self-assigned reading and want to get back to stories.
Thus my 2011 goal is to read fiction, but with a twist. In order to continue to expand my horizons, I am setting myself a goal to read one book by a previously-read author and one book by an entirely new-to-me author for every letter of the alphabet. I know it’s dorky to codify this so much but it’s also a way to force myself to try new things.
